This week has been all about logo instability. To my horror I realised my original logo resembled that of Yorkshire Tea. This wasn’t copying — I was reaching for a design which projected a contemporary, inclusive mood for the region and hit on a similar solution.

Well, okay. Maybe it was subconscious copying. I’ll never know. But none of my replacement logos worked either and as the night wore on, and modest amounts of vino were imbibed, they grew increasingly twee. Then I couldn’t find the original logo…

I’m happy with the one I have now. But Substack is a new platform that’s still almost in ‘Beta’ mode (“an early stage of software development, m’lud, which sets a high priority on getting the product to the user as soon as possible”). So if one of my discarded variants pops up on the page, don’t be alarmed. We’re all learning as we go, which is what makes creativity (and life) so interesting.
